During a week of enforcement operations from May 24 to May 30, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona charged 257 individuals with immigration-related criminal offenses. The charges include 125 cases of illegal re-entry into the United States and 124 cases of illegal entry. Additionally, seven cases were filed against eight individuals for smuggling illegal aliens within the District of Arizona.

These cases were supported by various federal law enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Several notable cases emerged during this period:

In “United States v. Hugo Antonio Martinez-Lopez,” an Integrated Fixed Tower operator observed an individual entering a truck driven by Hugo Antonio Martinez-Lopez on Federal Route 19 near Newfield, Arizona. After failing to yield to Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) and attempting to flee, both Martinez-Lopez and another individual were apprehended. Martinez-Lopez was charged with Transportation of an Illegal Alien.

In “United States v. Jesus Fernando Jimenez Rodriguez,” a search warrant executed by Mesa Police Department at a residence in Mesa, Arizona led to the discovery of large quantities of ammunition. Jesus Fernando Jimenez Rodriguez was charged with one count of Alien in Possession of Ammunition and Illegal Re-entry.

“United States v. Nicholas Anthony Lawrence” involved charges against Nicholas Anthony Lawrence for Aggravated Identity Theft, Fraud and Misuse of Visas, Permits, Other Documents, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, and Reentry of Removed Alien. Lawrence had prior convictions related to child molestation and sexual conduct with a minor.

The Department emphasizes that criminal complaints and indictments are not indicative of guilt; all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

These actions are part of Operation Take Back America, aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations through resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
