Attorney General Kris Mayes announced on April 27 that Anthony Whyte was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by lifetime supervised probation with sex offender terms, after being convicted of distributing child sexual abuse material.

The sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect children from exploitation and prosecute those involved in such crimes. The Arizona Attorney General’s Office functions as the state’s primary legal entity, offering advocacy and protection for Arizona residents, according to the official website.

Whyte was indicted on December 16, 2024, after sending four videos containing child sexual abuse material to an undercover officer through a chat application. Officers later found additional illegal content on a thumb drive at his home. “Those who produce, possess, or distribute child sexual abuse material will be found, prosecuted, and held accountable by my office,” said Attorney General Mayes. “We will never stop fighting to protect Arizona’s children.”

The case was investigated by the Special Investigations Section of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office in partnership with the Chandler Police Department and prosecuted by the Fraud and Special Prosecutions Section of the same office. Whyte pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, each classified as a Class 3 Felony and considered dangerous crimes against children.

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office addresses issues such as elder abuse, civil rights violations, and unsolved crimes through its cold case unit, contributing to community protection across the state according to the official website. The office also participates in federal action lawsuits and supports initiatives like fair housing policies and accountability measures for social media companies according to its official website.

Kris Mayes is serving as Arizona’s 27th attorney general and is noted as the first mother to hold this position according to information provided by the official website.
