On Wednesday, a federal indictment was unsealed in Tucson, Arizona, charging four residents with crimes related to an April shooting at a Tucson Police Department officer. Hassan Omar Kassim, 19, Alexandra Brooke Wisdom, 19, Daniel Cardenas, 18, and Jaquvon Terell Poe, 20 are the individuals facing charges.
Cardenas is charged with Use of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence. Kassim and Poe face charges for Aiding and Abetting the crime. All three are also charged with Conspiracy to Commit this offense. Wisdom is charged as an Accessory After the Fact.
“Any attack on law enforcement is an attack on the rule of law,” stated United States Attorney Timothy Courchaine. He emphasized his office’s support for Tucson Police officers who risk their lives for community safety.
Tucson Police Department Assistant Chief Diana Duffy expressed gratitude for prioritizing the case involving their officer: “It’s reassuring to know that those responsible for shooting at one of our officers… were given the highest priority.” She acknowledged the ongoing partnership with the United States Attorney’s Office and the FBI.
Heith Janke from the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office commented on the suspects’ disregard for human life while noting no injuries occurred during the incident. “The FBI will not waiver in our commitment to ensure those who commit acts of violence against members of law enforcement will be held accountable,” he said.
The incident took place on April 20, 2025. A plainclothes TPD officer was driving an unmarked vehicle when he observed a dark car speeding southbound near Stone Avenue and Fort Lowell in Tucson. After broadcasting its license plate to colleagues, shots were fired at him by Cardenas from within the suspect vehicle. The officer was unharmed but lost sight of the vehicle after a short pursuit failed to stop it.
Investigations revealed Kassim as the driver during the shooting and Poe as another occupant. Wisdom later drove and abandoned the car after removing items from it; some items were found in her apartment.
The investigation was conducted by Tucson Police Department along with FBI Phoenix Division’s Tucson Office under Southern Arizona Violent Crime and Gang Task Force guidance. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam D. Rossi will handle prosecution efforts going forward.
A criminal indictment signifies charges against individuals but does not imply guilt; innocence remains until proven otherwise through evidence presented before a jury beyond reasonable doubt.
