Ron Washington Junior has taken legal action against his former employer, alleging retaliatory termination linked to his wife’s whistleblower activities. On November 19, 2025, Washington filed a civil complaint in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona against Gila County, Arizona. The lawsuit claims that his dismissal was a direct consequence of his wife’s efforts to expose prosecutorial misconduct within the county’s attorney office.

According to the complaint, Ron Washington Junior was employed as an attorney by Gila County and had no significant performance issues prior to his termination. The conflict began when Ashley Washington, Ron’s wife, filed motions in April 2025 accusing the Gila County Attorney’s Office of prosecutorial misconduct and unethical practices. Her actions were deemed protected whistleblower activity under law as they addressed serious allegations such as violations of constitutional rights and misconduct in justice administration.

The situation escalated when Mrs. Washington sought information from the Arizona Secretary of State after failing to obtain necessary details from Gila County for filing a Notice of Claim (NOC) regarding multiple civil rights violations. On July 18, 2025, Mr. Washington received a call from his supervisor Joseph Collins asking if he would be coming into work that day. Upon arrival at the office, Mr. Collins handed him a termination letter without providing a clear reason for his dismissal.

Washington alleges that his termination was retaliatory due to Mrs. Washington’s complaints and her relationship with him. He argues that there was no legitimate reason for his firing and highlights deviations from standard employment practices as evidence of retaliatory motives by Gila County officials.

In response to these events, Ron Washington Junior is seeking several forms of relief from the court. He requests compensatory damages for lost wages and benefits, career advancement opportunities lost due to wrongful termination, damage to professional reputation, emotional distress suffered as well as costs incurred including attorney fees under applicable laws like Title VII Retaliation (42 U.S.C §2000e et seq.), Civil Rights Violation (42 U.S.C §1983), First Amendment Retaliation among others.

Representing Ron Washington Junior is Okorie Okorocha from Toxicogy.com based out of El Segundo California while presiding over this case will be Judge GMS with Case ID: 2:25-cv-04350-GMS.
