Jose Fernando McCormick, a 52-year-old resident of Tucson, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing took place on June 27, 2025, under the jurisdiction of United States District Court Judge Scott H. Rash. In addition to his prison term, McCormick will also serve five years of supervised release.

The incident leading to McCormick’s arrest occurred on October 3, 2024. He was found at a gas station in Tucson with approximately eight kilograms of methamphetamine in his truck. Law enforcement attempted to apprehend him at the scene; however, McCormick fled and subsequently abandoned his vehicle after crashing it into an electricity pole in a nearby neighborhood. Officers later discovered him hiding in a residential shed.

This case falls under the purview of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF is known for its efforts to identify and dismantle major criminal organizations within the United States through a coordinated approach involving multiple agencies and led by prosecutors.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Culver from the District of Arizona’s Tucson office prosecuted the case.
