During a week-long enforcement operation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona has filed immigration-related criminal charges against 124 individuals. This effort, from July 12 to July 18, included 62 cases of illegal re-entry and 54 cases of illegal entry into the United States. Additionally, seven cases were filed against eight individuals involved in smuggling activities.
The operations were supported by several federal law enforcement agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Highlighted cases include United States v. Arnold Perez where Perez was apprehended after attempting to evade arrest while transporting four Mexican nationals illegally present in the country. In another case, United States v. Luis Sahid Guanin-Manzaba, Guanin-Manzaba was charged with transporting two Mexican nationals found in his vehicle at a border checkpoint.
United States v. Jasiel Antonio Moreno-Cuevas involved Moreno-Cuevas being charged with re-entering the United States after previously being removed following a felony conviction.
These actions are part of Operation Take Back America, aimed at combating illegal immigration and related crimes through coordinated efforts by various Department of Justice resources.
A criminal complaint serves as an accusation; defendants remain innocent until proven guilty in court.
